Interior painting is exciting, as it can completely transform the inside of your home. It is also a statement of your personality and style, not to mention increasing your resale appeal and value. That  tired old color, the damaged walls from children playing, the water leak from upstairs, upgrading the current house or moving into that new house of your dreams. Any one of these factors can lead to the need for a change. Painting can also be a little disrupting to the normal flow of everyday life. I work hard to make sure that disruption is kept to a minimum, so you can maintain your daily life. Communication with you will take place daily, keeping you up to date and prepared for the next days work. I strive to make this transition as painless as possible by being neat, clean and respectful of your home. The goal is for me to take your vision and transform it to the interior of your home, color by glorious color.

What to expect when we start your interior paint job...

Spackling, Caulking

  • Major sheetrock repairs will be done early in the process, as it may require additional time to allow spackle to dry. Application of additional coats after sanding may be necessary, extending working time.

  • Spackling of holes, dents and cracks is then done to improve finished appearance.

  • Caulking of trim is done to hide separation cracks, usually a result of settling and age. If necessary, old caulk will be cut out and new applied.

  • All of this is done to ensure a neat, clean and new look.

Sanding and Priming

  • Heavy sanding of all repaired areas and a light sanding of walls will be done to try to smooth out any  rough areas as well as remove roller fibers and trash from previous painting.

  • This work will result in dust being present. Tarps and plastic will be used to help contain as much of the dust as possible and vacuuming will be done to remove concentrated areas of dust.

  • Priming of repaired areas as well as pen, crayon and water marks.

Painting

  • Vacuuming of baseboards and any affected areas prior to painting.

  • Walls are painted with a flat or eggshell finish. Color selection, paint sheen and condition of walls will all determine if two coats are necessary to achieve proper coverage and appearance.

  • Trim is usually done in semi-gloss for a nice clean, upgraded appearance.

  • Floors and necessary furniture will be covered with tarps and plastic.

What you can do to prep for interior painting.

Interior painting can be disrupting to the general flow of life in your home. In an effort to ease disruption and help you with the transition to your new look, here's what you can do for us.

  • Remove pictures, paintings and mirrors. I can assist with these items if they are large or heavy. If these items are to be placed back, please leave the hardware in place, otherwise the holes will not be there when you go to put it back.

  • Move items of significant value, both monetarily and sentimentally, that can be easily knocked over and broken.

  • Clear countertops in kitchen and baths of decorative items. This makes working in these areas easier and faster.

  • Closets - if you want them painted, they must be cleaned out. Highly recommend painting them white, not room color, so you don't have to clean them out next time we change colors. It also improves visibility inside since most closets have inadequate lighting.

  • Secure computers, as the power to them will be disrupted. Answering machines, TV's and cable boxes will most likely have to be unplugged in order to move them and remove outlet covers to paint walls.

  • Clean out under that bed and couch, these items must be moved in order to paint behind them. Don't worry so much about the dust, but the storage boxes full of clothes need to be moved to another room.

  • Don't worry about moving furniture. It is best if you leave it for us to move, so we can maximize our working time.

Paint Recommendations

  • I recommend Behr, Sherwin Williams, Glidden and Benjamin Moore for interior projects.

  • I will always consult with clients about color choices, sheen choices and recommended brands ensuring your satisfaction. Cost does not always mean a better product. Some of the less expensive brands are as good if not better than the most costly brands.

  • Walls are usually done with a flat sheen to help limit the imperfections, especially in older homes. Eggshell is good but can sometimes require two coats to ensure a even looking finish.

  • Trimwork is usually done in a semi-gloss for a very neat, clean and upgraded finish. Gloss is an option, but it tends to show its age a lot faster, especially in areas of heavy wear and cleaning.

  • Ceilings and closets are done with a flat, usually white paint.

  • All of these recommendations are made with 25 years of experience. That being said they are just that, only recommendations. I will work with you to arrive at the best solution for your project
