Exterior painting is a way to make a statement to your whole neighborhood. It is often looked at as a reflection of your style and personality. It shows you care about one of the largest investments you will make in your life. When you decide to put your touch on your home, Burriss Painting & Repairs is the one to call. With 28 years of experience, I can transform your home into the envy of  your friends and neighbors.

How do we get started?

A phone call, email or text will start the ball rolling. You will then be contacted so we can set up a time for me to come over and view your home. Viewing is typically done with the homeowner present, but it is not a requirement. I am well aware of how busy modern day life keeps us. It does however allow me the chance to see your home, see the current condition of the paint, assess any damage that may require repairs and see any difficult areas to reach for painting. All of this helps me to  develop a feel for the job and produce a more accurate estimate for your home.

Why should I paint the exterior of my home?

What an excellent question!  Allow me to elaborate on the reasons with a simple quote. "Painting quite simply is a necessity of home ownership." With the exterior, it makes a statement as well as provides a means of protecting your largest investment.  Here are few more reasons.

  • In our climate, extreme heat, bitter cold, high humidity, heavy rain and mold and mildew are constantly assaulting the exterior of your home. It needs protection!!

  • The need for exterior repairs is a basic necessity for protecting your home. Weather is one of the worst combatants to the exterior paint as well as the materials covering your house. Allowing damage to remain unrepaired leads to more damage which can lead to structural damage... and very costly repairs.

  • The last painter failed to do the job the proper way. Poor prep, cheap paint, altered paint, improper application methods and failure to make necessary repairs before painting.

  • Previous repairs that were done incorrectly by unskilled or unqualified persons.

  • Cheap materials, cheap labor and poor workmanship from a builder, including the original paint job

  • Masonite siding should be painted at least every 7 years, Hardiplank at least every 8 years. Cedar siding dries out over a 7 to 8 year period and must be stained to protect it from splitting, cracking and warping. These numbers are based on the home being properly cared for between each paint job.

What to expect when we start your exterior paint job...

Pressure Washing & Repairs

  • An absolute necessity when it comes to painting. It removes mold, mildew and dirt providing a clean base for the new paint to bond to.

  • Helps to expose bad siding and trim work. This helps us to locate and make  necessary repairs prior to painting.

  • All repairs are done prior to any other work. Repairing damaged areas is not an exact science and have many variables. Some areas of damage are not visible until the actual process begins, which can extend the amount of time needed to complete the job. Efforts will be made to keep you advised of these developments and the revised estimated costs.

Painting

  • Chosen paint colors are then applied to your home using specified methods.

  • All windows and doors are painted by hand and the days they need to be unlocked will be coordinated with you.

  • Downspouts will be taken down, painted and put back  up after painting. This allows trim behind them to be inspected for damage and painted.

  • Tarps and plastic will be used to cover all necessary areas.

  • Equipment and ladders will be stowed away neatly in the yard and trash will be cleaned up daily.

Prep Work

  • All repairs are made before any other work begins.

  • Scraping and sanding - This is performed on areas were paint is peeling such as window sills and trim boards. It is a must to remove loose paint and sand areas so you can properly prime.

  • Priming - This is done to any new wood applied to house. It is also done to any areas that have been scraped and sanded. This helps seal old and new wood and provides a solid base for new latex paint.

  • Shutters and lights will be taken down. If want new lights put back, purchase them and we will put them up for you.

  • New light bulbs can be installed in flood lights while we are here. Just have them available.

What can you do to prep for exterior painting?

Exterior painting does not require a lot from the customer, but here are a few things you can do.

  • Trim back bushes and trees, it makes it a lot easier for us to do our job when we are not fighting the landscape. You really don't want them rubbing on that new paintjob anyway.

  • Move anything you have stacked against the house or near the house. This is a good time to toss those things you were meaning to last year.

  • Make sure cars and boats are moved if they are not in use.

And Finally....

On the last days of your job you will notice the house starting to come together nicely. Windows and doors are painted. The lights you purchased or the existing are installed. Freshly painted shutters and downspouts are back in place. That project that you envisioned, that custom painted home, has come to life. Now its time for the final OK from you! I will do a walk around with the customer and will perform any touch ups necessary in order to ensure your satisfaction and finalize your project.  The last items of clean up are done and we are out of here. Another happy Burriss Painting customer who will bring us many great referrals.
